What is the difference between knitted fabrics and woven fabrics in the way they are produced?

Knitted fabrics and woven fabrics are the two main types of textile fabrics. They have completely different production methods. The differences in production methods also make the two fabrics have different performances, appearances and uses.
Knitted fabrics are made by interweaving yarns row by row using specialized knitting machines. In this process, the stitches on the machine travel between the yarns of the fabric to create a continuous loop. The ring-like structure is formed layer by layer by stitches moving laterally. Because of this loop structure, knitted fabrics often have excellent elasticity and ductility. This makes knitted fabrics ideal for many types of casual wear, sportswear, and intimate apparel. Its unique production method gives knitted fabrics a soft feel and comfortable wearing experience. Due to the flexibility of this manufacturing method, designers can easily create a variety of textures and patterns, making knitted fabrics popular in the fashion world.
Woven fabrics use traditional weaving techniques. In this process, the warp and weft yarns are crossed on the loom, forming a network structure through the shuttle's shuttle. Compared to knitted fabrics, woven fabrics have a tighter structure. This gives woven fabrics a flatter appearance, while also making it easier to display complex patterns and textures. Because of this relatively dense structure, woven fabrics typically exhibit less elasticity but some stability. This makes woven fabrics ideal for making formal garments such as suits, skirts, etc. The way the woven fabric is made gives it a classic look that is suitable for many business and formal occasions.
The differences between the two production methods also appear in terms of breathability and weight. Because the loop structure of knitted fabric is relatively loose, it has good breathability. This makes knitted fabrics suitable for lightweight, breathable summer clothing. The relatively dense structure of woven fabrics makes them less breathable, but it also provides them with some warmth, making them a more suitable choice for cold weather. Additionally, because knitted fabrics are manufactured in a way that makes them lighter, they are often used to create garments that require comfort and flexibility, such as sportswear.
